Renovating a leatherette surface called the most common Skaï surface is particularly easy.
Generally speaking, the leatherette is renovated over the entire surface, including undamaged areas. It is not recommended to re-colour only a faulty part, even if you want to do it in the same colour. Indeed, a slight difference in hue or gloss will always be present. This principle also applies in the case of a renovation of leather or plastic.
The first thing to do is to degrease and clean the surface with acetone.
Once the cleaning operation has been carried out, you should proceed with a light sanding using a sheet of fine 180 grit sandpaper.
If you have small tears, cracks or cracks, it is at this stage that you must carry out your repairs using our leatherette repairs. Work preferably horizontally.
Undrilled material:
- Lightly sand the part to be repaired with sandpaper and degrease with acetone.
- Generously fill the cavity with product.
- Level the surface as much as possible with a spatula.
- Allow to dry to a dry surface to the touch, 2 to 4 hours depending on temperature, the product shrinks more or less when drying depending on the colour.
- Sand and renew the operation until the cavity is filled.
Material drilled:
- Glue a piece of material to the Neoprene to give a bottom to the hole to retain the repair product, a piece of leather or leatherette that we can provide you.
- Apply the snag repair in thin coats by sanding after each coat.
- Allow to dry to a dry surface to the touch, 2 to 4 hours depending on temperature, the product shrinks more or less when drying depending on the colour.
- Sand and renew the operation until the cavity is filled.
Your leatherette is now repaired, it is time to move on to re-colouring.

Hello, to repair a car seat in imitation leather, can we use the "leather repair paste" sold on your website?
Hello,
I bought a renovation kit for a 2-3-seater leatherette sofa, unfortunately I can't use the addictive repair paste. It is much too liquid, the paste flows by itself from its tube when you open it, and even once placed on the armrest it flows on the sides... Is there any way to make it a little harder?
Thank you for your help, I'm sorry to be blocked by the 1st step of the renovation, when your products seem to be of very good quality.
Yours sincerely,
Hello,
the viscosity of this product is indeed a defect and we are working on it to thicken it without obtaining any undesirable effects, and that is not easy.
If you cannot work horizontally, try at least to apply a first coat as a tackifier. Then use our RepaCuir which should attach itself to it and which has the great advantage of being more pasty and easy to work with.
